Paying for energy bills during the summer season is never fun! However, it is necessary. So, unfortunately, there’s not much you can do to get around it. The good news is that you can work toward lowering your energy bill by finding an energy-efficient temperature to set your thermostat at instead, which will leave you both cool and comfortable throughout the season. Luckily, Bexley Heating & Cooling is here to help guide you in determining the perfect temperature for your home!

WHAT IS THE SUGGESTED AIR CONDITIONER TEMPERATURE?

Per the US Department of Energy, the ideal temperature for homeowners to set their thermostats during the summer is 78°. However, we know no single magical number will work for everyone, everywhere. While setting your thermostat to 78° will definitely result in energy savings, it may not be exactly livable for you and your family. So, if you want to find the perfect energy-efficient temperature specific to your home, it may require some experimentation on your part.

WHAT IS THE BEST METHOD TO FIND YOUR PERFECT AIR CONDITIONING TEMPERATURE?

To determine your ideal temperature, you will need to experiment a bit. However, you can start with the recommended 78° F. Set your thermostat to this temperature for a few hours and see if everyone in your household is comfortable. This should give you a good starting point. From here, you can make small adjustments to the temperature for the next few days based on how everyone feels. Just remember that according to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the typical temperature range for homes is between 73°F to 79°F. Also, remember that lowering the temperature on your thermostat will increase your energy bill. With all that in mind, you should be able to pinpoint the best temperature for your household this summer season.

WHAT TEMPERATURE SHOULD YOU SET YOUR THERMOSTAT TO WHEN YOU’RE AWAY FROM YOU’RE HOME?

If you’re going on a summer vacation or trip, setting your thermostat to conserve energy while keeping your household items safe is important. But you don’t want to make your home too hot in your absence and compromise your plants or collectibles, etc. A good tip is to turn your thermostat up by 10 degrees from your normal summer temperature when you’re away; this will lead to energy savings without risking damage to your belongings.

WHAT KIND OF THERMOSTAT DO YOU HAVE?

Owning a smart thermostat can help you save energy. If you often forget to adjust the temperature before leaving the house for extended periods, you can use your phone to adjust the thermostat’s settings remotely. Using a smart thermostat can also easily adjust the temperature before returning from vacation, resulting in both convenience and energy savings. Plus, if you happen to have several trips or vacations planned this summer, this might just prove to be a useful tool for you.
