If the spring cleaning bug has got ahold of you already, you might already be in the spring cleaning and preparation mode. You may have a running list of what needs to be cleaned or organized. Maybe you want to finally organize your garage, or perhaps you would like to deep clean your car. But, amidst the chaos of spring cleaning, we don’t want you to forget about your HVAC system and the proper preparation it needs as we head into warmer weather. Bexley Heating & Cooling knows how it is easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of springtime errands. So, let us partner with you and help lighten your load. We have compiled this checklist below that should make prepping your residential HVAC system a breeze.

Did You Change the Air Filters?

Though air filters are a common thing to change year-round, you still want to make sure you start off this spring season right. Springtime is when pollen, allergens, and other loose dust particles are prominent. In addition, your system can run at its best with a fresh air filter this season. So, give your air filters a quick once over and see if they need to be swapped out for a new one. And don’t forget, it is recommended that air filters are changed every 30-60 days.

Did You Clear the Drainage Hole?

Don’t overlook the drainage hole! There should be a drainage hole near the base of your cooling unit that allows for condensation to be redirected away. Unfortunately, it is not unusual for the drainage hole to fill up and become clogged. This is likely to happen during the months the air conditioning unit has not been in use. Keeping your drainage hole clean will help your unit run at its highest efficiency.

Did You Inspect Your Ductwork?

Your HVAC system includes a series of ductwork that should be considered when preparing for the upcoming season. It is good to inspect any exposed ductwork and confirm there are no holes, rips, or leaks. If you find any, make sure they are appropriately sealed, or you can contact a trusted HVAC service professional.

Did You Remove Any Obstructions around the Outdoor Unit?

It’s easy to forget that outdoor unit. However, it is imperative the area around the outdoor unit must be checked for any weeds or plant growth around it. This area needs to be kept clear of any weeds or vegetation. In addition, if there are any leaf piles or stray sticks and twigs, you will want to make sure that those are also cleaned up. Thus, making the area clear of anything that could be obstructing the unit from functioning correctly.

Did You Schedule an Appointment for Your Spring Maintenance Check?

With all the basics out of the way, it’s time to schedule your spring tune-up & safety check. It’s vital to keep up with your seasonal maintenance every year. You still want to do this, even though you may not notice anything wrong with your central air or HVAC system. In addition, if you want to keep the manufacturer’s warranty active, seasonal maintenance is a required step.

Did You Hear About Our Service Maintenance Agreement?

Have you heard of our Service Maintenance Agreement plan? If not, there are numerous benefits to getting one. A Service Maintenance Agreement, also known as an SMA, includes two seasonal tune-up & safety checks. One for your cooling unit in the warmer months and one for your heating unit in the colder months. These two tune-ups & safety checks are included at a discounted rate instead of paying for them separately. The price you pay upfront is a one-time fee you pay for the entire year. As a bonus, our SMA customers also reap the added benefit of priority scheduling! Call us today for more information!
